Whereas Joan is an objective witness to the potential reality of the situation, Sarah's psychiatrist, played by Jay Duplass, is an unbiased witness to her mental illness. I don't think there was any scene off the top of my head that she didn't own, even after having watched several hours ago. At first, the movie suggests that this is Sarah’s familial problems with mental illness manifesting in her, too, since everything that happens could be explained away. Love it and the film. Just in a different time, different life. When Sarah wakes up, she’s certain that all this happened, and that she is her grandmother’s clone, and so she leaves the institution after the 72 hours are up, goes back and dresses and styles herself as her grandmother in that picture, frees Willow, and wanders into a forested area where she lies down — and is scooped up by a spaceship, who levitates her above the forest and into the vessel. When we first meet protagonist Radha in The Forty-Year-O, After years of keeping excited fans in the dark about the nature of the star-studded action film, the first trailer for woman-led spy thriller The 355 has, This year has taken a toll on all of us. The way she tries holding it together when she first comes clean to Joan about what was happening was very wrenching. But the other understanding of this ending is that once Sarah is in the institution, we go fully into her mind, and never come back out. Could you explain what you and your mates thought about that scene with the girl in the ward? As for the real answer? Brie stars as Sarah, a somewhat awkward 30something who works at an arts and crafts store, lives with a more extroverted roommate, is still obsessed with her horse Willow (who no longer belongs to her), and is beginning to unravel. Not really, and she knows that mental illness is present throughout various generations. You could accept all of this as really happening because the film begins in that same forest and ends in that same forest, implying a time loop. Could that Sarah in the window be “real” Sarah, and the Sarah we follow past that point is just what Sarah believes is happening? Everything we experience is what Sarah thinks she’s experiencing. (As a girl who used to ride horses, I had a lot of people joking that it's my biopic.) Horse Girl is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on Friday, February 7th, 2020. Then the breakdown of her naked in the craft store leads to the second stay at the hospital. Which ending do you think is the “real” one? Also implying the time loop is that in the film’s first scene, Shannon’s Joan spots a horse walking by the crafts store and then disappearing, and we see that scene again at the very end, when Sarah-dressed-like-Grandma walks by the store with Willow; inside, we see Joan noticing the horse again. I think Ethan knew what was happening but he could only do so much for her within his job qualifications, and then had to refer Sara elsewhere for help. After watching it, I felt like maybe Sarah really was in the hospital for the entire film. Pictured. The man she sees in her dreams walks by the craft store every day; maybe he just lingered in her subconscious. MAYBE, but the movie doesn’t decide! And seeing Sarah disappear into an alien spaceship, leaving Willow alone, is also a tip that this might be reality: She was there, then she’s not. Then I thought it would be a weird drama in which a girl finds out she has horse DNA. im not sure if youve see the movie Memento, but the director specifically sets the scenes up in mixed order so you leave the movie feeling somewhat similar to the way the main character (a man with short term memory loss) feels. For instance, she does dream about people who she then ends up seeing in real life, like the plumber and her roommate in the psychiatric facility. Let’s get into SPOILER TALK, SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERS! There was an error with subscription attempt. I’ve just been listening to the film with headphones on and I’ve just realised the scene where Sarah is in bed and she can hear her roommate talking with someone in the living room even though she wasn’t there, if you listen closely the muffled conversation is actually the conversation she had with the dark haired girl in the mental hospital room later on in the film where they talk about the same abductions/dreams. The Netflix Original drama makes its theatrical debut on the 27th of January, appearing at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Niiiiiice catch. Horse Girl is an upcoming Netflix Original psychological drama directed by Jeff Baena and adapted from the screenplay he co-wrote with Alison Brie. Then I realised it was a mixture between the latter and an alien abduction drama. “We crafted it that way on purpose,” Brie previously told Refinery29 in an interview. Filming for Horse Girl took place in the Summer of 2019 between June 17th and July 24th. Did you watch Horse Girl? Netflix movie Horse Girl ending explained. Does that make us view her any differently as a character? Horse Girl is officially the first film for Alison Brie that she has had a hand in writing the screenplay. The authors of this site also have no affiliation with Netflix. This theory explains why the supposed "suicide" is not a tragic event, but a representation of Sarah accepting mental illness as part of her DNA. If Joan is talking to Sarah and seeing a horse that is also being lead by Sarah — and Joan is an outsider in all this — then wouldn’t that make everything objectively true? The birthday party was so sweet and charming and fun and it gave so much weight that was carried all the way through the film. No matter how you interpret it, Baena sees the Horse Girl ending as bittersweet. And if so, what? I wanna read what they said, if anything. We’ll have a new commenting experience online soon. And that’s when, about halfway through, Horse Girl fully jumps into psychological thriller mode, with Sarah experiencing vivid dreams of being in an all-white room with strangers, beginning to lose time and experience time in different ways, sleep walking lengthy distances, and doing things she can’t quite explain. There are two ways to read the final 15 or so minutes of Horse Girl, when Sarah breaks out of the institution, goes back to the crafts store, steals yards and yards of a coral-colored fabric that a customer told her would have protective qualities, goes back to her apartment and sews protective clothing for herself and Willow, has sex with Darren, who then transforms into the same-named character from the TV show Purgatory, and wanders through the all-white dreamscape she had encountered while sleeping. And that may be why the ending, which was so utterly uncoupled from reality and seems to vindicate her illness, left me a bit cold. And if you take the POV that she is her own grandmother, who knows what genetic fuckery being a living temporal anomaly causes -- perhaps a specific, temporally disjointed form of schizophrenia. The Netflix Original drama makes its theatrical debut on the 27th of January, appearing at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Perhaps you might like to refresh yourself with the trailer: As you can see in the trailer (which I think gives far too much away, actually), there’s a lot going on in Horse Girl.
