A 2nd Miss. The Mexico veteran served as Chief Engineer to A.S. Johnston until he was wounded at Shiloh; then headed the engineers of the Department of Northern Virginia. Family history has it that he was at Shiloh and Corinth as a partisan, later joining the Cavalry when it was formed under Solomon Street.
